As more visuals of plastic waste washing up on beaches fill our Instagram feeds and with 6000kg of clothing dumped in Australian landfills every 10 minutes*, any company that is doing its bit for our future is worth taking note of. And when that company is producing a product so good that a slew of influencers across the country want to get their hands on it? You’ve got our attention…
After spotting boho picnic rugs Earth Covers popping up in our IG news feed time and time again, we started digging into the brand to find out a little more. And letβs just say, we liked what we found. Founded in April 2018 by Eliza Anne Boyd and Brandon Jakubzik near the surf coast of Victoria, Australia, the two wanted to produce a vintage eco-friendly picnic rug that could be both taken on the road or used at home.

Explaining what kickstarted the idea, Eliza tells Husskie: βThe inspiration started after a day at the beach with friends. We wanted to find a picnic rug to use for beach days β and after searching in both local and online stores, we couldnβt find much out there that suited the lifestyle and look we loved. I started researching, and ended up coming up with Earth Covers after months of developing the perfect rug brand that was both boho, eco friendly, and diverse in its use.β
Handmade in India from recycled cotton off-cuts and produced using a low carbon footprint, everything about Earth Covers is geared towards protecting the environment β with the brand even using recyclable compostable shipping satchels. βIt was important to us that the brand is eco-friendly because when you are aware of the impact on the environment a brand can have, why wouldnβt you be?!β explains Eliza.

And the Instagram world has been taking notice, with Instabloggers keen to put the rugs through its different paces β from beach picnics, to festivals, to giving their home some instant bohemian vibes. βWe have received a lot of love from some amazing influencers,β Eliza explains.
Fans of Earth Covers includes Chloe Barry Hang, Elyse Knowles, Sally Mustang, Lucy In The Sky, Kirsty Cane, Morton Mac, Edi Bee, Em Gurr, Kendall Baggerly… just to name a handful β a fact that Eliza puts down to Earth Covers encapsulating βa lifestyle that most of us desire: carefree, travelling, bohoβ.
