One half of They All Hate Us, Tash Sefton is undoubtedly one of Australia’s most successful fashion bloggers and influencers… but that’s not her only prosperous business pursuit. Earlier this year saw Tash launch into a new entrepreneurial venture with Where Did Your Style Go – a consulting business aimed at assisting women and men look and feel their best.
Where Did Your Style Go sees Tash utilise the knowledge she’s accrued from having over 20 years experience in the fashion industry – and we were lucky enough to discover first-hand some of her key learnings thanks to a styling event with Wittner (Tash was recently named the new face of the brand).
The main takeout from the event? It’s time to cut the clutter… “I’m not about owning a lot of pieces,” reveals Tash. “I’ve gone through this whole thing in my life personally where I’ve realised I don’t actually need a lot of things. People have this perception of me that I have this huge wardrobe with lots of things, and I do… but I have rules around it. I’m very aware of consumption, I’m very aware of the price of things – so I’ve changed the way I dress and how I shop now because I think you can be smarter.”
Below, Tash lets us in on the capsule collection list of essential clothing and shoe staples every wardrobe needs (notice we said needs not wants).
Key clothing staples
- A great trench coat
- A denim jacket
- A black suit – I’m really into fashion suits at the moment
- A grey fashion blazer
- Denim jeans
- A denim skirt
- Tailored pants that aren’t black
- A sweat pant
- A fashion skirt
- A black skirt
- Adding a colour into your wardrobe is a good idea – I think red looks great on people and makes them feel really good. It’s the clothing you can wear when you’re feeling terrible and want to be lifted.
- A printed dress
- A striped dress
- A black dress
- A wrap dress
- A fashion top
- A white shirt
- A striped shirt
- Three basics – in black, white and grey
Key shoe staples
There are four shoes everyone needs in their wardrobe:
- A black or nude pump
- A luxe sneaker
- A loafer or a ballet flat
- A fashion shoe – so a really fun, crazy shoe that you can wear out
“I’m happy to spend whatever on shoes. I could wear a white t-shirt and jeans every single day and then a different pair of fabulous shoes. Shoes make me feel so good. You can show different personalities through your shoes – they can turn a really simple outfit into something fab,” reveals Tash.
“I like adding fashion colour trends with my shoes. For example, if yellow is the current season trend, rather than me wearing yellow clothes – I can add a hint of yellow with my shoes and that takes me into that season.”
